A teenage angler is making waves in the UK after reeling in what is thought to be the biggest goldfish ever caught in Britain. The goldfish, which was caught by 16 year old Nick Richards in Dorset, weighs in at an incredible 5lbs and measures 16 inches long.

The catch displaces Goldie, the 2lb pet goldfish branded the UK’s largest goldfish in 2008, as the biggest of its kind in the UK. The stunning find was nicknamed Billy by a proud Richards, who returned him to the lake immediately.

While this incredible story has captured the attention of the nation, Billy falls short of a Guinness World Record, with the largest goldfish record standing since 2003. The record holder is owned by Joris Gijsbers and measured an astonishing 18.7 inches on March 24th, 2003 in Hapert, The Netherlands.
