With their work done on the French coast, Marcos and Ramon’s next port of call is Italy and it’s not long before they encounter more rubbish. The remains of an old tyre and a random piece of metal the highlights of the first 200m of sand!
This form of rubbish can have serious repercussions on the environment. For example, sheets of metal similar to the one found can take centuries to fully disappear, whilst tyres and car parts can seriously affect sea ecosystems (not to mention that it’s a major source of pollution).
Our volunteers continue their mission in Venice, collecting more startling items of rubbish along the way. New to the van this time are an (outdated) mobile phone, a coffee pot and the biggest can of tomatoes you’ll ever see – empty of course! People really seem to be having difficulty distinguishing beaches from landfills it seems…
Having been given a short time to recuperate, Marcos and Ramon set off towards Calais to catch the ferry to the UK and the English beaches. Good luck guys, best pack a coat…
