Every once in a while, certain artistic movements change radically its key concepts, transform them, adapt themselves in some way. Social changes are reflected in art, indeed.
This is what happened to the art of recycling, which has become a way to acknowledge the value of garbage and the waste generated by our own society as a source of inspiration for artists.
During this Christmas holidays, an exhibition at FAD Barcelona invite us to think about our consumer society and how influenced we are by it: we are talking about the Drap-Art – Artistic Recycling International Festival.
But, what we will be able to see there?
According to Tanja Grass, current president of Drap-Art, the main goal of this exhibition is “to demand a different economy, green and sustainable and, above all, real”. This is the statement that links all the genres and formats gathered in this exhibition, from material art to conceptual art, including painting, sculpture, video, collage…
Pieces as wooden pallets, magazine paper, bottles, engines… even illuminated sculptures placed on ironing boards as a tribute to working mothers, are some of the works you will be able to enjoy at this exhibition, open to visitors until the end of this month.
This art movement denounces its own critical vision of our today’s consumer society. It is in our own hands to choose this option; to change the way we live, according to the values associated to this art movement: the acknowledgement of the value of garbage and recycling as a source of inspiration and as a better lifestyle.
